Personal Branding - Who are "YOU"?

What the heck is “Personal Branding” and why should I care about it?

I get the question quite often, so I thought I would share my own “Personal Branding” with you.

I recently hosted a Personal Branding Workshop in Grand Rapids, MI, and I thought I would let you in on my own personal branding secrets… So let’s get branding!

Personal Branding – What is it?

How do you define “personal brand” in one sentence? “YOU” are your personal brand. Your personal brand is what makes people remember you. Think about it… what makes you different? Why would people be attracted you? What value do you have to offer?

Personal Branding – Why is it important?

As you probably are experiencing, the competition out there in the world is fierce. Whether you are building a business, trying to get a job, looking for a promotion, or adding new customers to your base, IT IS TOUGH OUT THERE! Right? You need to stand out; you need to create a presence. Use your uniqueness (what makes you different, how do you differentiate yourself amongst the competition?) and use your “YOU” (your value!).

Personal Branding – How?

You need to create an online presence. What are the different ways to do this? First of all, your website should be your name. For example, my blog is www.andiepetoskey.com. I am branding me, so shouldn’t my website be my name? Go over to GoDaddy right now and get your domain name! If your name is not available, you can always modify it slightly and go with www.workwithyourname.com or www.successwithyourname.com.

Be a leader and offer value. Remember this as you are posting online… people join people. (They don’t join companies, they don’t join compensation plans, they don’t join products, etc.). PEOPLE JOIN PEOPLE (once they know and trust them).

Be consistent with your brand, your “YOU”. I have created a logo and social media profiles/backgrounds that are consistent with my brand.

If you are interested in a logo, you have a couple of options: 1) Create it yourself or 2) Outsource it (www.99designs.com, www.elance.com, www.odesk.com). Then, once you have your logo, incorporate this into your branding.

On a Plane to Las Vegas… I Look Back

As I am on my way to Vegas (yes… there was Wi-Fi on the plane – perfect!) to the 1st Annual MLSP International Marketing Event, I had over 3 hours to reflect on the past year and what I have achieved. I thought… what a perfect opportunity for me to share some thoughts I had.

I have been in Network Marketing for almost 4 years. Have I achieved the success I hoped for? Not even close. Why not? Here were the questions I asked myself:

1 – Was it me? It must be me. I don’t know how to do this Network Marketing thing. Even with 18 years of Corporate America Experience, I was failing in my online business.

2 – Was it the company I aligned myself with? The products are amazing. The compensation plan is pretty cool, too.

3 – Was it the poor economy? Well, so many people are out of work, looking for jobs or a way to financial independence and security. AND, when the economy is suffering, Network Marketing (historically) experiences growth during these economic downturns.

4 – Was it the lack of leads or poor quality leads I have been talking to? Back when I entered the Network Marketing arena, I called my friends and family, talked with anyone who would listen to me about my business, and purchased thousands and thousands of leads. Still… success eluded me.

Well, as I look back today over just the last year, I realize the achievements I have accomplished in the last year and how my business has changed, every with the poor economy.

I struggled for 3 years and I knew of many other marketers who were struggling too. What were we missing? What was the “secret”? Where is my Golden Ticket??!!

I had spent so much money on my business, leads, marketing materials, and more. And, where was I? Not much further than where I was when I started.

So, almost a year ago exactly, I attended a Free Wednesday Night Webinar (can’t exactly remember how I was invited) and I was blown away!  The topic of the webinar was Article Marketing and David Wood (my now coach and mentor) shared how he was generating double-digit leads with this Free strategy (basically Free with the exception of an article submitter). I wanted to learn how to market online… the right way!

My first thought… is this a scam? Is this for real? Am I interested in generating my own leads (versus purchasing all these “tire kickers” through lead companies)? Am I interested in generating cash flow? Duh…… Am I interested in making money from leads (that I generate) even when they don’t join my business opportunity?

Well, here I am today. On my way to the 1st Annual International Event for My Lead System Pro. This is what changed everything for me.

So, let me bring you up to date…

1 – It was me that was the problem… I did not know how to market online (or offline, for that matter).

2 – It was not the company I was with… it was me.

3 – It was not the poor economy… it was me.

4 – It was the lack of leads… and the poor quality leads… and it was me.

So, where am I today?

Well, I am not considered a “guru” by any means. However, I am holding my own.

I now generate double-digit leads every day (that are MY leads).
I now know many different marketing strategies that I can use at any given time, including:

  • Social Media Marketing
  • Article Marketing
  • Facebook PPC
  • And more!

I now earn from leads that don’t join my business opportunity.
I am now on the leader boards of MLSP!

So, I have an assignment for you… I want you to look back on the last year of your business (or last few months for that matter).

Are you achieving the success you dreamed and hoped for?

Are you aligned with the right business opportunity (that has the systems and leadership in place necessary for success)?

Are you capitalizing on this poor economy (you should be!)?

Are you generating your own leads and talking to at least 5 new people every day about your business opportunity?

My guess is… NO. You are just like I was!

Well, guess what? You don’t have to be!

The Hemp Network Review - For Real?

What the Hemp? Hemp Network?

Yes, an MLM Company that sells hemp products!

Read on, brothers and sisters!

What is it?
The Hemp Network is the “MLM” division of Medical Marijuana Inc (founded in March of 2009), which concentrates on providing a well-organized and protected structure for the newly popular Medical Marijuana industry. The Hemp Network will provide customers hemp products utilizing the MLM business model, including a way to distribute these new products globally.

The Hemp Network is not yet available to the public (they are currently in Pre-launch and are testing their systems and high-tech software programs).  The official launch date is currently scheduled for 6/1/10. To get started with The Hemp Network will set you back $100; however, you will also receive $100 in hemp products.  Also, to be part of The Hemp Network, you must be invited and have a sponsor.  As they say, this is a ground floor opportunity and this is the first MLM Company in the medical marijuana industry!

Where is it?
The company is located in Foothill Ranch, California and the President is Don Steinberg and the Chairman/CEO/Founder is Bruce Perlowin.  Mr. Steinberg and Mr. Perlowin are no strangers to the network marketing industry.  Previously, they created success in the telecom area of networking marketing.  Dude, they are looking to do it again with Hemp!

Compensation?
The Hemp Network will be using a binary pay plan and there are no other specific details on the compensation plan.  One note: All distributors who join now (before the launch) will be placed in the power leg of the binary pay plan.

Hemp Press Release
Below, I have included some of the statements from the Press Release on 4/20/10:

“The Hemp Network is the first network marketing company in history to provide consumers with hemp products on a network marketing platform. President Don Steinberg stated, “We are all now at the ‘right time, right place’ to take advantage of an industry that has been around for thousands of years, with products derived from hemp being used today by millions of people.”

“Over the past few years it has become apparent that with the increasing pace of new products hitting the market, there is a need to move those products throughout the world at a very fast rate.”

“The Hemp Network is now the launching pad for thousands of new ideas that people worldwide have in this giant emerging industry. We are here to help develop and market those ideas.”

“With a state of the art software program that The Hemp Network is based upon, we intend to provide a new level of interaction and awareness between the public and what we feel is the next green industry.”

Well…

Some factors to consider before joining:
1 – What are the ins and outs of the Binary Compensation Plan? How do you get paid, how often, is it residual, are there bonuses, etc.?
2 – What is the training program/system for new distributors? How will you know what to do when you get started?
3 – What marketing system is in place within the system, including websites, lead generation, auto responders, etc.?

This is definitely an untapped and rapidly expanding market, with the acknowledgment and acceptance of medical marijuana.

If you are going to jump on the Hemp Network bandwagon, you will need to brand YOU as a leader.  Why will your prospects want to buy hemp from you and not from other Hemp distributors? (I can’t believe I am even saying that…)
